Argentina vs Peru Prediction & Match Preview

ARGENTINA will be aiming to maintain their 100% record in the Copa America as they face Peru in their final Group A fixture on Sunday. The Argentines have quality all over and should be too strong for Peru, who are struggling in attack.

Argentina head into Sunday’s clash off the back of a 1-0 victory over Chile in their second Group A fixture. They were made to work hard by the Chileans, with Lautaro Martinez coming off the bench to score a late winner.

The result means Argentina have a 100% record in the competition after claiming a 2-0 victory in their opening fixture. One of the great things about Lionel Scaloni’s team is their defensive discipline as they are yet to concede after two matches.

Peru were stunned in their previous Group C fixture as they were beaten 1-0 by Canada. They played much of the second half with 10 men following a red card to Miguel Araujo and generally struggled to offer much in attack
The Peruvians are still seeking their first win in the competition after beginning their campaign with a 0-0 draw with Chile. Jorge Fossati’s men are yet to score a goal after two matches in Group A.

Argentina have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 2/5 by Betfred to claim the win. An unlikely victory for Peru is valued at 6/1 while Betfred is also offering odds of 3/1 for a draw.

Argentina have only lost once to Peru, claiming 13 wins and four draws from 18 previous meetings. The Argentines picked up a 2-0 victory in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier back in October.

Martinez has been on target in both matches for Argentina and will be the one to watch on Sunday. The striker is priced at 6/4 by Betfred to maintain his scoring run.

Argentina has also been solid at the other end of the pitch as they are yet to concede a goal after two matches. Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martinez should continue in central defence and can lead the Argentines to a clean sheet at 8/11 by Betfred.

Lisandro Martinez is pushing for a start having scored off the bench in the last two matches. Lionel Messi had an injury scare in the win over Chile is unlikely to be risked for Sunday’s clash.

Miguel Araujo is suspended for Peru after being sent off in the defeat to Canada. Paolo Guerrero could be handed a first start in the competition with the Peruvians looking to beef up their attack.

Argentina: Martinez, Molina, Romero, Martinez, Tagliafico, De Paul, Mac Allister, Lo Celso, Di Maria, Alvarez, Martinez
Peru: Gallese, Callens, Zambrano, Abram, Lopez, Quispe, Cartagena, Pena, Polo, Lapadula, Guerrero
