Hungary vs Switzerland Prediction & Match Preview

THE second match in Group A at this summer’s European Championship sees Hungary go up against Switzerland at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne.

Both sides find themselves in Group A along with Germany and Scotland, who kick-off Euro 2024 proceedings at the Allianz Arena tonight.

Hungary are slowly but surely becoming European Championship mainstays, with this set to be their third successive appearance at the Euros.

Having come through their qualifying campaign undefeated, Marco Rossi’s men will be feeling bullish about their chances of securing a last-16 berth.

As for Switzerland, they will be looking to replicate or better their Euro 2020 efforts, after reaching the quarter-final stage three years ago.

Murat Yakin’s men didn’t pull up many trees during qualifying, posting just four wins from 10 outings whilst finishing five points behind Romania.

Switzerland are 6/5 favourites on Bet 365 to take top honours from their opening match of the tournament.

Despite going through their qualifying campaign without tasting defeat, Hungary are as big as 12/5 on Bet 365 to collect all three points in Cologne on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a share of the RheinEnergieStadion spoils pays out a t 9/4 with Bet 365.

The two nations have crossed paths on three times since the turn of the century, with Switzerland coming out on top on each of those three occasions.

The most recent of those clashes saw Switzerland storm to a 5-2 success at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, in what was their opening match of World Cup 2018 qualifying.

Hungary midfielder Adam Nagy is 4/5 on Bet 365 to commit just one foul during this Group A showdown and that price holds plenty of appeal in what is sure to be a keenly-contested affair.

Joining Nagy in the midfield battleground will be Switzerland skipper Granit Xhaka. The all-action Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is a tempting 11/10 on Bet 365 to commit two or more fouls.

After missing Euro 2020 due to injury, Hungary  talisman Dominik Szoboszlai will make his major tournament debut for the Magyars on Saturday afternoon.

Switzerland’s Steven Zuber is rated as doubtful after picking up a calf injury against Austria last time out.

Hungary: Gulacsi; Lang, Orban, Szalai; Nego, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Sallai; Vargas

Switzerland: Sommer; Schar, Akanji, Rodriguez; Widmer, Freuler, Xhaka, Ndoye; Shaqiri, Vargas; Amdouni

Given that both nations know that a result here could be crucial for their qualification hopes, the 4/5 on Bet 365 on over three cards flashed during this fixture has to surely merit consideration.

Of all the 24 sides to make it to Euro 2024, both Hungary and Switzerland were among the top-eight teams to receive yellow cards during qualification.

What’s more, the fear of losing the game could well outweigh the reward of winning, all of which could contribute to the over 3.5 card line being broken.
